Staffan Schmidt, born 1959 in Stockholm, lives in Malmö.
He studied philosophy, archaeology, art, architecture theory, and art history. In 2008 he earned his PHD in Fine Arts.

From 1986 until 1993 he worked as an art critic. Since 1992 he lectures in art theory at art academies in Sweden and abroad.
From 1999 until 2008 he worked with Mike Bode on the artistic project "spatial expectations". He joint exhibitions in Scandinavia, Germany, Lithuania, Belarus, Japan and the US. Since 2009 he is a researcher at the Valand School of Fine Arts, Göteborg University.
