Books We Should Be Friends - a performance workshop project together with artists and citizens from Jena

May 16th and 17th, 20:00 - 21:30, Theaterhaus Jena

We can buy the exact same chairs in Jena as in Chicago. Something that 90 years ago was a revolutionary goal, has become in today's globalised mass production the everyday experience.
A sort of golden principle, with which the Bauhaus movement started off 90 years ago: to have good quality design be produced at an affordable price due to the industrial mass production.
The point of departure for this performance project of Lucy Cash and Bryan Saner, two members of the international renowned and Chicago based performance group "Goat Island", is the question: how successfully has this former ideal principle been implemented today.
In reference to the today legendary workshops at the Bauhaus, this project will focus on the place of the production -"the workshop"-  in a literal sense.
Lucy Cash and Bryan Saner will design a series of artistic workshops, which are open for carpenters, musicians, film makers, potters, chefs, business men, performer and dancer. Everybody is welcome! The key thing is a common interest in entering a dialogue about building new models for a lived environment.
What do we produce today? Where and at which occasion are we beginning to produce something? The project will start with observing our everyday. E.g. how do we eat, how do we dress up, how do we shelter and entertain ourselves?
The focus of the collaborational workshops will be design by neighborhood. We will investigate and attempt to create practical and economically appropriate designs that are integrated into the daily local lifestyle of Jena.
In preparation of the performance Lucy Cash and Bryan Saner will  devise together with the workshop participants performative elements or pattern from the observed daily live. These contributions can be transferred into written texts, objects, music or arrangements of movement.
