Jan Pappelbaum, born 1966 in Dresden, works as set designer. Currently he is
head props department of the Schaubühne Lehniner Platz in Berlin.
He was trained as a brick layer followed by a study in architecture at the Bauhaus University Weimar.
He began his theatre career as the director of the studentn theatre group in Weimar. During his studies he worked as stage design assistant for Dieter Klaß in the frame of the Kunstfest Weimar.
Since 1995 he designed stage designs for Thomas Ostermeier, Tom Kühnel,
Robert Schuster, Andrea Moses aside others.
His very sculptural and open stage scenarios are often decribed as "influenced by the Bauhaus". (Anja Dürrschmidt, „Dem Einzelnen ein Ganzes“ on the work of Jan Pappelbaum, 2006)
