Katja Schäfer, born in 1962 studied theatre acting and culture management in Leipzig and Weimar. After several years of working in German theatres, she decided to continue working in a more European context . As artistic director, she produces cultural projects out of a continuously growing international network of partners. She implements these projects with a team of young artists and graduates from Bauhaus-University Weimar. Her projects are deeply rooted in a cultural, political and social orientation and deal with topics such as facing the process of candidate countries entering the European Union (UWAGA! Polen kommen 2005), the questions of the definition of the construct of the European Union (MISSION EUROPE 2006) or the specificities of Ankara as a secular and modern place in Turkey and its protection by military control (LIGHT HOUSE ANKARA 2007). She cherishes teamwork, because only united can positive social change be achieved.
